Although Las Olas Boulevard is actually in the city of Fort Lauderdale, because of its unique identity, it deserves it’s own place on this web site.

Home to the well known Annual Las Olas Art Fair, this trendy, upscale district is located one block off the New River, just east of Federal Highway (Hwy 1), and provides a beautifully landscaped spectacle of exclusive boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, and sidewalk cafes.

History and Culture

The elegance of yesteryear pervades this street, from stylish storefronts to quaint horse drawn carriages carrying visitors on leisurely explorations.

In Spanish, Las Olas means "the waves," the name given to this road, which in 1917 led to the first bridge connecting Fort Lauderdale with the ocean.

Stranahan House, on Las Olas Boulevard, is the oldest structure in Fort Lauderdale, restored to its former splendor. There, Indians once brought furs to trade with Frank Stranahan, the city's first citizen.

The Museum of Art possesses the United States' largest collection of artwork from Amsterdam, Brussels, and Copenhagen and the largest Florida collection of pre-Columbian and Native American Art.

Real Estate

Known as being the boater's paradise, Fort Lauderdale's premium boating and waterfront homes are right here in the Las Olas, downtown area.

The real estate offers a mix of old and new, with many older homes on the waterways being torn down to make way for the building of beautiful modern homes, as with all of the Gold Coast. There are Intracoastal front townhouses and ocean access homes priced into the multi-millions for the boating enthusiast. And if you are not in the multi-million dollar range, you can still find total ocean access homes in the half-million dollar range.

Remember, when you are looking for a home in the Las Olas area, just call Florida Homes Online, Inc., toll free, at 1-800-330-1924 to talk about your real estate needs or search the MLS right here at Property Search with the 33301 zipcode.
