Lighthouse Point, known for being a boating community, is a friendly place incorporated in 1956, populated by 10,767 residents, and so named because it sits under the beam of the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse which was built in 1906. The character of the City is that of quiet, tree-shaded, canal-laced neighborhoods, with 20 acres of parks, 13 miles of bikeways, and 18 miles of waterways. Lighthouse Point is a small town that wishes to remain so.

Tucked in among many other communities, Lighthouse Point has no room to expand. Preserving city certification is diminishing any worry about the threat of amalgamation into a larger entity. Through providing full service and continuing to work closely with the Florida and Broward Leagues of Cities and other appropriate government agencies, the City is optimistic for the future.

Intracoastal Waterway and Real Estate

Characterized by informal affluence and a leisurely pace, the attractive neighborhoods are quiet, tree shaded, and water-laced. Of the residences, 80% are single-family homes, many of which front on the City's 18 miles of waterways.

The east door of Lighthouse Point opens to the Intracoastal Waterway, sitting under the beam of the famed Hillsboro Lighthouse. Virtually all of the original waterfront homes with boat docks and total ocean access have been either totally remodeled or completely torn down and rebuilt with magnificent modern homes. You can still find ocean-access homes with one fixed bridge in the half-million range.

Shopping

Federal Highway, with its shopping centers, restaurants, and other business establishments, is the west door. Approximately 20 acres of parks and mini-parks and 13 miles of bikeways symbolize the nature of community life. Streets wind and twist and there are many cul-de-sacs.

Police and fire protection are excellent; the City successfully operates its own library; and the City government functions with a minimum of confusion and controversy. Recreation amenities include the Lighthouse Point Tennis Center and Dan Witt Park for playing sports, in addition to natural environment parks and mini-parks.

For young and old alike, Lighthouse Point provides the friendly atmosphere of a self-sufficient, prosperous, and proud Community.
