Location
This rustic equestrian town, tucked up
in the piney woods of Broward County's northwest corner, with
Boca Raton in Palm
Beach
County
just to the north and the Everglades to the west, Parkland
is a study in contrasts. You can find homes situated on multi-acre
parcels of land with horse stalls in the back, as well as newly
developed very
upscale estate homes with manicured lawns and "Homes
and Gardens" landscaping. Parkland, Florida is a city
whose character and inhabitants would seemingly be at odds,
yet oddly
enough
aren't.
This is a forest town, and trees predominate on land formerly
owned by large cattle ranchers. Parkland's main street, Holmberg
Road, is a two-lane blacktop whose 35 mph speed limit is strictly
enforced by police with little other crime to pursue. The city
consists of numerous multipurpose trails for horseback riding;
a 5-acre park lighted with sports fields., a tot lot and horse
corral; a 9.1 acre park with sports field lighting and other
amenities; and a 7.5 acre equestrian center is now completed.
History
Parkland was incorporated in 1963 and its features are
predominantly residential with a small portion zoned for commercial
and industrial development. The
population is now approximately 35,000 people. City leaders
are using a patient, conservative approach to growth to maintain
the city of Parkland's small
town flavor.
In Parkland's center are the Ranches, a neighborhood of large,
old-time farm spreads where nearly everyone rides a horse.
The seven-square-mile city is primarily residential—it
has only two businesses—and city officials jealously
safeguard Parkland's rural mystique. Indeed, city law prohibits
any structure that doesn't reflect Parkland's park-like image.
Parkland's residents, however, are anything but country
folk. Their average median income is $92,472, they live in
homes with an average price tag of $375,000, and have 3.4 cars.
More than 40 percent have bachelor's degrees or higher. Median
age: 34.
Real Estate
Parkland’s newest homes are built by WCI Communities
and are the last two new communities left to build in this
northern portion of Broward County -- Heron Bay and Parkland
Country Club. Coral Springs to the South and Boca Raton to
the North are completely
built
out
so this
is the last opportunity to purchase a newer home in this
area.
Heron Bay

Heron Bay offers grand and gracious country club living at
its finest with a perfect balance between man and nature. Spanning
the cities of Coral Springs and Parkland, the community's environmentally
conscientious design and inspired neighborhoods have earned
numerous awards including the distinction of being one of the
first golfing communities in Florida to be a registered member
of Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Program. The
championship 18 hole TPC golf course, designed by Mark McCumber,
has hosted such noteworthy events as The Honda Classic. And
you don't have to be a golfer to enjoy the many amenities at
Heron Bay as the community also boasts a clubhouse, pool, barbecue
area, tennis, exercise, and much more for all of the residents.
Residents range in age from young families in their first
starter homes to well-established professionals and executives
who own estate homes overlooking the golf course or some of
the beautiful lakes that grace the community. Most of the residents
live at Heron Bay year-round, but a significant number choose
this lovely location for a seasonal residence.
Parkland Golf and Country Club
Parkland Golf and Country Club, the first and only true Boca
style country club in Broward County, will have some condo's,
villas, single family homes and several sections of estate
homes with prices going into the millions. There are no longer
any new country clubs in Boca, or room to build any. The only
new ones that are still being built are in Delray and Boynton
Beach, areas that are nice in there own rights but are not
Parkland.
Parkland, which is located in the northwest quadrant of Broward
County, has direct access to the Sawgrass Expressway, what
are considered to be the best schools in Broward County and
a community providing an unparalleled lifestyle.
