Once an expanse of swamp and pasture, Broward
County's youngest city was developed by the Arvida corporation,
the developer of Boca Raton in Palm Beach County.
Location
Weston is
located in Southwest Broward county, west of Ft. Lauderdale,
at the
crossroads
of
I-75,
I-595 and
the
Sawgrass
Expressway, Weston is a 10,000-acre master planned community
which was recently rated the number one selling master
planned community in Florida and number three in all of the
United
States.
In a true "hometown fashion," Weston offers schools,
houses of worship, parks and recreational facilities, shopping
and a full range of community services. With a variety of beautiful
home designs in a selection of more than 60 neighborhoods,

City Management
Weston has a city manager form of municipal government and
a five-member city commission, which includes the mayor. The
City Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays
of each month at the Weston Hills Country Club. Most government
services such as fire and police are provided by through contracts
with Broward County. Others such as planning and zoning and
garbage collection are contracted through private companies.
Weston Park of Commerce, will eventually be the largest business
in the western Broward County. The park is a mixed-use development
of about 700 acres, divided into two regions: a 300 acre corporate
park along I-75 and Arvida Parkway and a 400 acre high-tech
research and development complex.
Real Estate
Home to celebrities such as Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan
Marino, Weston has home prices ranging from about $160,000
to the multi-millions. Gated subdivisions of residential neighborhoods,
set amid lush tropical landscaping, account for a third of
the city's 10,000 acres. In 2001, Weston had about 53,000 residents.
When the community is built out in about 2004, plans call for
it to include approximately 60,000 people.
